Résumé : An attempt has been made to study the ultra-violet photolysis products of desoxyribonucleic acid and desoxyribonucleoprotein by dialysis, acetone, ethanol or salt precipitation and electrophoresis. A very small percentage of the photolyzed products was found to be dialyzable. Acetone precipitation of the photolyzed desoxyribonucleic acid shows the appearance of a 10-15% soluble fraction. The areas occupied by the principal constituent in the electrophoretic diagrams are found to be decreased by a corresponding amount; the remaining fraction does not show up in the diagrams, owing probably to heterogeneity. The solubility in 0.14 M NaCl of the irradiated nucleoproteins is increased. Photolysis of labile bonds, followed by rearrangements, might be the cause of the decrease in asymmetry of the particles. © 1952.
