Résumé : The infrared analysis of the temperature dependence of the intensities of the ν(CO) absorption bands of cyclohexanol shows that the enthalpy difference between the equatorial and axial conformers is ΔH = 376 ± 51 cal/mole. It is shown also that for this derivative ΔH {reversed tilde equals} ΔF, and, that ΔS = 0. The molar absorption index at the maxima of the ν(CO) absorptions appears to be approximately the same for the equatorial and the axial conformer of cyclohexanol. It is suggested that a careful analysis of the temperature dependence of the band intensities may provide an empirical method for the assignment of absorption bands. © 1963.
