Résumé : The paper addresses the question of the market as an economic and social space of transactions in the context of a comprehensive history of access to food under the first Carolingians (750-840), studying institutions, tools and standards that govern access to food in the interpersonal context of the domestic economy and the community, and in the market. This case study is a first attempt to validate the concept of moral economy during the early Middle Ages, in the perspective of the works of Edward P. Thompson (The Moral Economy of the English Crowd, 1971) and James C. Scott (The Moral Economy of the Peasant, 1976).
