Résumé : Preeclampsia is a frequent unpredictable syndrome which is a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Although its etiology remains debated, placental ischemia has been generally accepted to play a predominant role in the pathophysiology of the affection. Several risks factors have been identified. Placenta ischemia is thought to induce a widespread endothelial damage resulting in the mother in a multisystemic disease affecting cerebral, hepatic, renal, cardiovascular and hemostatic functions, and in the fetus in growth retardation. This paper reviews the pathophysiology of preeclampsia, with special attention to the hemostatic abnormalities.
