Résumé : The sensitivity to solvent effects of νCO vibrations in polycyclic aromatic aldehyde is characterized by the slope of the straight line obtained by plotting ΔνCO [νCO (hexane)-νCO (solvent)] vs. ΔνCO for 1-naphthaldehyde (cf. Fig. 1). This property can be linearly related either to the pKb of the molecules or to the π electronic charge (calculated by L.C.A.O.) on the oxygen atom of the CO group. The scope of this relation is critically discussed. © 1967.
