Résumé : Price decisions for 1996/97 were delayed due to matters that arose at the same time as the discussions on prices and that were linked to them until their close. One can mention, in particular, the reform of the common organisation of the market for fruits and vegetables, we dramatic situation of the beef meet market following the occurrence of the already known problem of the «mad cow» and the freeze rate of arable land. Despite these complex and cross discussions, the Council followed the main direction set by the Commission: Continuation of the great reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, stabilisation of esthablished entitlements and simplification of the common organisation of markets.
