Résumé : This paper attempts to show some of the possibilities of computer control methods for controlling single-input-single-output linear systems. A brief historical account explains the evolution of the control loop structure. Some advantages of numerical implementation of controllers are pointed out. Then, after recalling the use of computer in modern identification techniques, we show how recursive identification and computer control are combined in adaptive control algorithms. Finally, some requirements and present research topics of adaptive control theory is mentioned.
