Résumé : With the introduction of transesophageal echocardiography, atheromatosis of the thoracic aorta is now well recognized as an occult source of systemic embolism in the elderly. In the absence of macroscopic atheromatosis, the presence of thrombi in the thoracic aorta identified by transesophageal echocardiography is an unexpected finding in a middle-aged patient with arterial embolism. Risk factors were investigated and hypercoagulable state with protein C deficiency was demonstrated.
