Résumé : The article focuses the culture and mythography of Risorgimento in the composition of Gadda's war diaries and his vision of 'ideal war'. Particular attention is given to the mediating role played by the memories (1899) of his uncle Giuseppe Gadda, who participated in several key events of the Risorgimento and held important political offices in the new kingdom of Italy. Following in the footsteps of the Risorgimento writers (from d'Azeglio to Nievo), C.E. Gadda considers that the problem with Italians is their character, which does not measure up to the challenges of history. The last section of the article is devoted to the influence of Mazzini's thought on Young Gadda.
